Blitz events in Katowice and nearby 9

Blitz in the conurbation ranges from a night-long marathon to a quick Friday round. Every July the Grzybowice district culture centre in Zabrze holds a night marathon of blitz that runs from Friday evening into Saturday, and the Jaworzno Grand Prix alternates three-minute blitz with a two-second increment and ten-minute rapid on Friday evenings through the year. In April 2026 the Katowice Chess Festival took the form of the Mokate Blitz Tournament.

Sosnowiec has blitz in several places: the Four Seasons rounds at the Open Culture Stop in Maczki, the spring tournament at the Juliusz seniors’ club, the holiday events in the Środula community hall and the Omnibus Chess Open, played as blitz in February 2025 and as rapid a year later. Tychy runs a blitz day at primary school 3 on ul. Wojska Polskiego, and the Gliwice festival in December includes a blitz open.
