Chess in Tarnowskie Góry 4

Tarnowskie Góry has a short but busy chess autumn. The Gwarkowski Rapid is a one-day FIDE-rated open on a Sunday in the second half of September, and the Henryk Karnówka Memorial is a classical weekend open that moved from November and October in earlier years to the end of September in 2026, its twentieth edition.

Through the school year the TG Mat club runs its own Grand Prix, a cycle of numbered tournaments with an open group, whose recent rounds were played on Friday dates between November and March. In early December the same club holds a St Nicholas tournament, so between September and March the town offers a rated game or a club round almost every month.
